Calorimeter with resistance
Calorimeter with resistance. Apparatus for the study of Joule’s law and the calculation of the specific heat of liquids.
The Calorimeter is a device, which is used to measure the amount of heat absorbed or released by various bodies, solid or fluid, under various effects, even chemical ones.
It consists of a metal container with a height of 10cm and a diameter (inner) of 10cm which encloses a second inner metal container of a height of 7cm and a diameter of (inner 6cm) with a capacity of 200ml. Styrofoam is inserted between them as a heat insulating material.
A cover made of transparent plastic is applied to the containers, which has holes for supporting a thermometer (not included in the package) and a stirrer. On the cover there are sockets (4mm terminals) for supplying electricity to a 2Ω resistor for heating the liquid.
The change in temperature recorded by the thermometer is a function of the mass and type of liquid as well as the amount of heat developed in the resistor by the power supply.
