Memory Metal Star
This nickel/titanium (NiTi) alloy initially “remembers” that it must be in star form. If it is bent in a different shape and put it in very hot water (90 ° C), it returns to its original state. You can repeat this as many times as you want. Memory wire is used in several important medical applications. For example, in surgical stents – wires coated with fabric with a tip like a balloon to open clogged arteries. It is also used for orthodontic braces. Some smart fabrics use such wire to change shape when they reach body temperature. Because it can undergo heat treatment, the potential of memory wire in design and construction has almost unlimited uses.
